Track and Field Wins Eighth Consecutive Conference Championship

May 15, 2024—Winsor’s varsity track and field team won the Eastern Independent League (EIL) Championship on Saturday, May 11 at East Providence High School in Rhode Island. With a total of 123.33 points, Winsor finished in first place—20 points over second place finisher Concord Academy’s 103.3 and 23 points over third place finisher Portsmouth Abbey’s 100. It was the eighth consecutive conference championship for the track and field team.

Two-time Gatorade Player of the Year Meg Madison ’24 won the 800-meter race in 2:24.93 and the 1500-meter race in a time of 4:38.17, both EIL meet records. Another EIL meet record was set in the 4 x 400 meter relay by Tessa Laurans ’28, Tenney Bluman ’26, Gabrielle Peskin ’28, and Madison with a time of 4:20.51.

In the 3000-meter race Winsor swept the first three places with Gracie Zhou ’26 winning the race in 11:27.81 followed by Lilah Glazer ’29 and Serena Toscani ’25 finishing second and third. Winsor also swept the first three places in the 800-meter and 1500-meter races with Peskin and Bluman finishing behind Madison in the 800 and Peskin and Zhou behind Madison in the 1500 meter.

In the discus event, Angeliki Agape Volandes ’28 finished second with a personal record of 71-01 to score 8 important points. In the 400-meter race, Bluman, Lara do Rosario ’26, and Laurans finished second, third, and fourth to help Winsor take home the EIL Championship trophy once again this year.
