On Sunday, January 29, 2023, Winsor Class V and VI students participated in the inaugural session of WILDMUN, a joint Model UN training conference with Roxbury Latin. This conference gave students the opportunity to practice their public speaking and collaboration skills in a new environment. In their first conference setting, novice delegates researched, debated, and attempted to resolve issues related to arms trafficking. The intermediate committee discussed health disparities tied to poverty and limited geographic access as they brushed off their conference skills. Winsor club leaders Allison Chan โ23, Amory Gordon โ23, Lauren Hogan โ23, and Natalie Pan โ23, and Roxbury Latin club leaders Ethan Dhadly โ23, Carter Crowly โ23, Justin Shaw โ23, Luke Wilkinson โ23, and Eric Zhu โ23 helped chair the committees and organize the conference.
The conference was not only an opportunity for new delegates to learn more about Model UN but also an opportunity for seniors to learn how to lead conferences and collaborate with each other in the planning and making of it.
Overall, this conference was successful in both accurately simulating a Model UN conference and providing students with the opportunity to work with people outside of Winsor. As delegates formed alliances and blocs, they had to resolve conflicts and compromise in order to ultimately pass their resolutions. The small setting for the conference allowed for individualized feedback for the delegates, as well as a fun and relaxed environment. Afterwards, Winsor delegates shared how they felt better prepared and excited for the upcoming BOSMUN conference in February and NHSMUN conference in March. Another big thanks to our club advisors, Ms. Holland, Mr. Mirelman, and Ms. Berg, as well as the Roxbury Latin club leaders and advisors for making this event possible. We are so excited about WILDMUNโs success, and we hope to continue this partnership with Roxbury Latin in the future!
